How to enable TCP/IP connectons to SqlServer

How to enable remote connections on TCP/IP?

I have just installed for first time SqlServer 2000,
and cannot connect from other host via ODBC.
I give hostname or address but it does not connect.
I checked on my firewall that there is no listenning socket
on port 1433 nor 1440 on sqlserver host.

I can only connect using "(local)" server in ODBC on sqlserver host.

start->programs->Microsoft SQL Server->Client Network Utility

then click on TCP/IP in right panel and press 'enable'button', click on
'applay', 'ok' then restart SQL server

You probably mean the Server Network Utility.

How to enable Remote Erros on Report Server 2005?

hi, all

When i tried to access a report via URL and I got an error page like:

Reporting Services Error

For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
SQL Server Reporting Services

So, How to enable the remote errors and then I was able to see what is wrong.

Thanks.

You could set the "EnableRemoteErrors" configuration value to True in the ReportServer.ConfigurationInfo database table.

Alternatively, you can use the SetSystemProperties SOAP call:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/rsprog/htm/rsp_ref_soapapi_service_lz_63le.asp

|||Hi, Sorry from the newbie question :)

I saw the answer:
"You could set the "EnableRemoteErrors" configuration value to True in the ReportServer.ConfigurationInfo database table."

How can I get to the ReportServer.ConfigurationInfo database table?

I am on the reportservice server and I run "reporting services configuration manager" and the "sql server managment". I didn't saw that option :(

Any help?
Thanks.

How to enable remote erros for report server?

Thanks.I'm getting the same error. We can get around the problem for now by logging
onto the server to see exactly what the error is, but I have yet to find out
how to turn on remote errors.
Any one have any ideas how to do this?

It is in the machine.config file for .NET Framework v1.1 in the
<windows>\Microsoft.NET\Framework\<Version>\ folder.
There is a XML Tag <System.Web>/<customErrors>
I think you set the value to "RemoteOnly"
It looks like there is a similar tag for .NET 2.0 but the config file looks
a little different. Hopefully, this can can point you in the right direction

How to enable remote errors for Reporting Services 2005

How do I enable remote errors for Reporting Services 2005?I am surprised this issue isn't dealt with in a FAQ in these forums.

There appear to be two ways to enable remote errors to display, so you can figure out what is happening ith your report.

1) Modify the Web.config file for the reports application. Whether this is for your application which contains the ReportViewer control that displays the error, or for a Report Services URL-based report is unclear.

Change the custumErrors section mode to off. Thus:

<customErrors mode="off"></customErrors>

It is also not clear if you must restart any ReportServer services or not with this procedure.

2) Create a small RSS script and run it against your server to set the correct property. I did this and it worked for me. Here's the thread:

Hi,

I have encountered a similar issue. I have a report server which hosts 1 report. I tried to access it via url thru another machine but I cannot see the remote errors even though I have already set the EnableRemoteErrors value to true in the ConfigurationInfo table in ReportServer Database but I am still not getting the Remote errors. I have restarted the web server, the report services and the database services but it is still not working for me.

Is there anything else which I have missed?

Thanks for any help!!

How to enable remote connections by code?

How to enable remote connections by code without "SQL Server Surface Area Configuration" ,implement by .net framework?

Thats pretty easy using SMO:

instance.ServerProtocols[protocol].IsEnabled = true;

Whereas protocol is the protocol you want to enable (like "tcp" or "np") ans instance is the server instance you want to configure. I wrote an application, the RemoteconnectionsEnabler which does all this using the SMO library.

How to enable "Force Encryption" for SQL Server 2005?

I need to enable "Force Encryption" for SQL Server 2005, but I don't know which API can do it. I need to operate remote SQL server , so I cannot operate registry directly to do it. Who can help me?

Hi Jimmy,

I'm not sure what you mean by "Force Encryption". Are you referring to "Force Protocol Encryption" in SSL? If so, you can find further details here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/316898

Please let me know if this helps,

Sung, thanks your reply

I want to do step 3 by SMO or other API.

1. Open SQL Server Configure Manager

2. Right click "SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration", select "Properties".

3. Click tab "Flags", set "Force Encryption" to Yes.

I don’t know if SMO (or any other API) provides such functionality, I would recommend posting your question in the following forums:

You need to set SqlConnecitonInfo.EncryptConnection property to true before creating a connection to the server.

You need to use WMI to accomplish this. You can create a VBScript program to do this. Here is an example how the flags are enumerated:

On Error Resume Next

Const wbemFlagReturnImmediately = &h10
Const wbemFlagForwardOnly = &h20

arrComputers = Array("MWORIES-N3")
For Each strComputer In arrComputers
WScript.Echo
WScript.Echo "=========================================="
WScript.Echo "Computer: " & strComputer
WScript.Echo "=========================================="

Set objWMIService = GetObject("winmgmts:\\" & strComputer & "\root\Microsoft\SqlServer\ComputerManagement")
Set colItems = objWMIService.ExecQuery("SELECT * FROM ServerSettingsGeneralFlag", "WQL", _
wbemFlagReturnImmediately + wbemFlagForwardOnly)

For Each objItem In colItems
WScript.Echo "FlagName: " & objItem.FlagName
WScript.Echo "FlagValue: " & objItem.FlagValue
WScript.Echo "InstanceName: " & objItem.InstanceName
WScript.Echo
Next
Next
' See Also: http://blogs.msdn.com/mwories/archive/2005/04/27/sql-wmi-scriptomatic.aspx

Note there are SMO objects that allow you to do this in C# as well. See the ManagedComputer object in the SMO reference docs. This is quite a bit easier to use than WMI, but on the flipside, a VBS script is much easier deployed and modified.

If you modify the script to point to your machine then you should see something like:

FlagName: ForceEncryption
FlagValue: False
InstanceName: (your instance name)

This is the flag that you need to modify. It's not a hard coded property but this collection is a set of name-value pairs.

Makes sense?

|||i actually saw the previous post, but I asked how to do this with the ManagedComputer class ? I don′t see any property collection in there, could you point me in the right direction for this ?

I have found a way to do it in C#. Following is C# code.

using System.Management;

namespace EnableTCPIP
{
class Program
{
static void Main(string[] args)
{
ManagementScope scope = new ManagementScope(@."\\" + "test.machine"+ @."\root\Microsoft\SqlServer\ComputerManagement");
SelectQuery query = new SelectQuery("SELECT * FROM ServerSettingsGeneralFlag");
ManagementObjectSearcher searcher = new ManagementObjectSearcher(scope, query);
ManagementObjectCollection managementObjects = searcher.Get();
foreach (ManagementObject obj in managementObjects)
{
foreach (PropertyData p in obj.Properties)
{
Console.WriteLine(p.Name + ": " + p.Value);
}
}}}
